Third political front need of the hour: CPI

Apparently keen on playing a bigger role in the coalition era and strengthening its base in North India, the Communist Party of India (CPI) would be focusing on strategies in this direction at its five-day 20th National Congress at Hyderabad beginning here from Sunday.

The congress would conclude with a public meeting on March 27 at the Nizam College Grounds. Though the Left parties, including the CPI and the CPM, aligned with the Congress-led UPA at the Centre, both are not happy with the performance of the Union Government and want to take a firm stand. The CPI would have a criticial review of the implementation of the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), proposed Nuclear Agreement with the US, agrarian crisis — post-loan wavier situation and market-driven economic policies benefitting only a few.
Recently Left has expressed distasifaction with Finance Minister for not toeing in line with Common Minimum Programme on Economic Policies.Brinda Karat Openly critisised Finanace minister for making his own agenda.
