XIII Metropolitan Magistrate, Bhagya Jothi in Egmore Court has sentenced Dinamalar Editor R. Krishnamurthy and its publisher R. Lakshmipathi to undergo three months’ simple imprisonment in a defamation case filed by a retired headmaster of a government school.
A. Sethuraman, who worked as headmaster of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Oothukottai, filed a complaint against Dinamalar for publishing a news item on March 16, 2001 stating that he helped students to indulge in copying in the public examination.Following the publication of the report, headmaster was placed under suspension.The news item was wrong, malicious and baseless, he contended.
Based on this the order was passed.
