Indian Workers Plead Ronen Sen

The nearly 100 Indian workers, who claim to be victims of human trafficking and exploitation after they fell for false promises by recruiters, met Ambassador Ronen Sen here in Washington on Thursday to press for a CBI probe into the racket in India and an intervention with US government agencies to prosecute the employing firm, Signal International.

In the course of a three-hour meeting that climaxed the workers’ eight-day “journey for justice” from New Orleans to Washington DC, the Indian envoy promised all possible help for their safety, security and well-being, but expressed his inability to intercede with the US immigration authorities or the departments of justice and labour for reasons of diplomatic protocol.
