It was a choppy but quiet day today. Weak global cues saw the market close in the negative. Sensex closed at 16086, down 130 points and Nifty at 4828, down 48 points from the previous close. The CNX Midcaps index was up 0.74% and BSE Smallcaps index was up 2.12%. The market breadth was positive with advances at 822 against declines of 414 on the NSE. Top NSE gainers included Tata Steel, PNB and HDFC while losers included Nalco, ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel.
