Find an Alternative

Left leaders today called upon the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) to work closely for a "third alternative" in the country and hold "joint struggles".
"It is time for us to work towards the formation of a third alternative in the country's polity. It is time that we hold joint struggles," CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat said addressing a UNPA rally on farmer's issues.

The government's path to development is benefiting only the big industrialists, and in turn, these industrialists are influencing the economic and foreign policy of the country, he said.

Although Karat avoided any mention of the Indo-US nuclear deal, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said the current visit of the US Defence Secretary Robert Gates is aimed at concluding several vital agreements including in the field of military cooperation.
