Sensex ends up 90 points

The market had a promising start, but fizzled out towards the end of the trading session. Sensex ended the day at 16,244, up 90 points from the previous close. Nifty shut shop at 4887, up 7 points. CNX Midcap index gained 1.2% and BSE Smallcap index, 1.8% over the day. IT and oil & gas stocks saw buying, while some capital goods and power stocks were dumped. Top Sensex gainers include Wipro, Infosys and Reliance Energy, while losers are BHEL, Ambuja Cements and Jaiprakash Associates, among others.
