Cong rebels vandalise KPCC office

AICC general secretary and chairman of the screening committee to select party candidates for assembly elections, Digvijay Singh, on Thursday experienced the intensity of dissidence within the party.
Hundreds of frenzied supporters of Manjunath, a disappointed ticket aspirant from Hiriyur constituency, vandalised the KPCC office and gheraoed leaders. The protesters laid siege to the party office and refused to allow anyone inside.
They shouted slogans against the leaders, accusing them of selling party tickets. They could only be coaxed to disperse when it was declared that Manjunath will be the Congress candidate for Hiriyur constituency.
Some of the more volatile protestors stormed into the KPCC office and broke the window panes. They damaged furniture and gheraoed KPCC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Digvijay Singh. One of the protesters even attempted suicide. Police had to resort to mild lathi charge to clear the crowd.
